Dr. Melissa Miskell, a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist, has created Focus Total Health to meet the needs of men and women who are going through the aging process. Her philosophy is similar to that of Dr. Andrew Taylor Still, the founder of osteopathic medicine. He said, “To find health should be the objective of the doctor. Anyone can find disease.”
Dr. Miskell graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry and a Bachelor of Science in Zoology. While working in the Biochemistry Department at Texas Tech Health Center, Dr. Miskell earned her Master of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. From there, she graduated from the University of North Texas Health Sciences Center. She completed her residency at Texas Tech University Health Science Center where she was elected Chief Resident. Dr. Miskell is board-certified through the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG). She is a member of the Texas Medical Association (TMA) and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG).
Today, Dr. Miskell, recipient of Vitals Patients’ Choice Award in 2014, strives to help her patients find and enjoy good health, regardless of age or current health status. She treats hormone imbalances, looks for and treats signs of cardiovascular disease, bone loss and declining brain health, and assists with medical weight loss. She takes pride in changing her patients’ lives; she says, “My passion for my practice revolves around helping people discover deficiencies, replacing those deficiencies, and then seeing the change in their lives. It is very rewarding when someone tells you that you have changed their life.”
In addition to working with patients in Texas, Dr. Miskell is a volunteer with PINCC. Cervical cancer is a leading cause of cancer death for women of childbearing age in underdeveloped countries; the mission of PINCC is to provide equipment and training for healthcare workers in these locations that allow them to detect and treat cervical dysplasia, a condition that often leads to cervical cancer. You can find more information about Dr. Miskell’s participation with this life-saving group here.
Rae Benson earned her Nurse Practitioner degree from University of Nebraska Medical Center and has been with us for 8 years now. She is a multi-talented lady who sees both men and women for hormone related issues as well as performing annual exams and other gynecology services. She stays close to home at our New Braunfels location and is accepting new patients.
On a more personal note, Rae is formerly a member of the Army Reserve and has been married to her high school sweetheart for 26 years. Her three daughters are now grown and Rae is happy to become the “mother of the bride.” When she’s not helping to plan a wedding, Rae enjoys gardening and exercising.
Marcie sees both men & women and is right at home with our practice philosophy. She joined our team in 2015 with 8 years of experience in bio-identical hormone therapy and supplements. Her Physician Assistant degree is from UT Health Science Center in San Antonio. Marcie is accepting new patients in our San Antonio location.
Marcie’s personal interests are centered around keeping up with her twin girls, but when time permits she indulges in playing the flute and reading.
